The problem of values formation in an English lesson

Abstract
In the article the problems of teenagers’ values formation are disclosed, the reasons are considered of which, that namely in this age the most favorable conditions for the development of adolescents’ values system are formed. And the design works are suggested for training material on the author’s culturological model of a text-book content for an English lesson. The values definition is given, the stage of formation and the dynamics of changes of a person’s values system are considered. Teenage period features are described, the authors discuss the processes happening in the teenagers’ life, the problems and crises corresponding to this period. The authors outline that namely this age period has the enormous meaning for values formation as at this age there is a fertile ground for work with the children on the development of the culturological personal position of students. For this the instructive recommendations for a modern text-book are offered on the basis of the author’s culturological model consisting of pedagogical regularities, ontoculturological principles and instrumental functions of a text-book. These recommendations have been implemented into the design works of an English lesson. The design works of the lessons contain culturological dominant ideas: emphases on value aspects of the person life (axiological emphases), introduction to the world of universal, national, ethno-national and personal values, moral ideals. The training material also contains the transmission of the formed types of cultural behavior, samples of cultural thinking; the materials facilitating value-meaningful self-definition of a student; the use of emotionally-colored structurally-semiotic language units; the student’s expression of the emotionally-value attitude to the world and to himself; the student’s empathic understanding; the use of means of training and education, different figurative instruments, the ways of artistic cognition. The authors suggest that the use of these design works in an English lesson must develop and strengthen the formation of the students’ culturological personal position. The authors express the hope that these recommendations will be interesting and useful for educators of schools and universities.
