Journal Title: Альманах міжнародного права - Year 2017, Vol 18, Issue
Abstract
After the end of II World War colonies, mandated territories and dependentterritories gained a possibility to become independent states. The process that once started under the aegis of League of Nations and then inherited by the United Nations seems finalized for international community. Author analyses a course of this process in XX century within the work of Trusteeship Council and the UN Special Committee on decolonization. In addition, he underlines that a mentioned process remains incomplete as some of non-self-governing territories are still under the rule of former empires even in XXI century. In order to abolish a colonialism completely an international community endeavored to eradicate it during the last three decades though it remains in vain. Author elaborates on the completion of the process and the need of its continuation in the XXI century. In this regard, as an example, he analyses the status of overseas territories of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, whether it corresponds to the provisions of Convention on Rights and Duties of States and amplifies on aspects of their further decolonization. Do we need to continue the process of decolonization of some remnants of colonial empires?
