The process of developing movement interpretations of musical works

Abstract

The process of developing movement interpretations of musical works is a creative act of a very individual character. Is it therefore possible to make any generalizations about activities pursued before and during the development of a choreographic composition? Is it possible to classify these activities and if so, which criteria should be used? Is the course of action while translating aural impressions into visual ones always the same? What factors does it depend on? This article sets out the framework within which the process of developing movement interpretations of musical works is enclosed; there are presented following stages of the process, with all necessary generalizations and simplifications. The reflection on the process focuses on the criteria used to select a musical piece for movement interpretation, on inspirations, manners of realization as seen from the perspective of applied means and methods of work.<br/><br/>
