The professional competence of high school teachers in the context of contemporary education tendencies

Abstract

The article discusses the professional development of high schools teachers and the connection between competence and qualification. The key competencies are stressed and the main professional competencies describing a teacher as a professional are analyzed. The formation of professional competence is closely related with the main tendencies in cont emporary education that sets the require ments for today teachers. The article discusses the stages of professional formation process and reveals the main needed conditions for its development. In order to reveal the main competence featur es of high school teachers, the students’ opinion is also analyzed.
