Analysis of the achievement level of professional competencies in the accounting studies programme at Siauliai college

Abstract

In order to maintain good quality of work, an employee must possess certain functional capabilities called competencies which enable the employee to carry out the said operational functions successfully [8]. The professional activities of an accountant require relevant qualifi cations, competence and ability to do independent, hi gh-quality and creative work in a given area. The accountant qualification is defined by professional knowledge and professional abilities (competencies and skills). The accountant competencies that a college student needs to acquire in order to obtain the accountant qualifications and university degree are defined by Accounting Trai ning Standard. Accounting specialists are trained under the study programme regulated by Accounting Training Standard. The formation of professional competency is closely linked to the achi evement level of the studies objectiv es and mastering of profes sional competencies. At the final examinations, professional competencies closely related to the formation of professional competency are checked. The achievement level of professional competencies exhibited at the final examinations 2005-2009 in the accounting studies programme at Šiauliai College is discussed in the study. The level of professional competencies e xhi bited at the final examinations by Šiauliai College graduates in the accounting studies programme was confirmed to meet employers’ requirements.
