Journal Title: Profesinės Studijos: Teorija ir Praktika - Year 2008, Vol 4, Issue 4
Abstract
In the course of psychology and sociology literature research, attempt has been made to determine societal and economic causes of violence against women. The following theories such as gender and power, control, scape goat, frustration and aggression, social learning, social cognitive aggression clearly demonstrate correlation between violence and poverty especially in the instances of violence against women. The objective of analysis: to determine principle causes against women in the social risk families in the context of violence theories. The analysis objectives were supposed to: highlight predominant theories related to violence against women and highlight violence specifics within the families belonging to the social risk groups. Herein conducted research clearly demonstrated that family violence is not coincidental act. Violence is the most efficient and visible form of social control which is mainly used by husbands/cohabitants in order to control a wife and dominate in the family. Those husbands/cohabitants which experienced parental violence in their childhood also tend to use violence interacting with wives/cohabitants. Family violence frequently transforms into violence in further life. Frustration provokes aggression which is applied by aggressors against the scape goats (wives/cohabitants). Thus they transfer responsibility for their own failures. Violent acts against women in the family are influenced by education background, field of occupation, professional status, level of incomes and use of alcohol.
