Abstract

In the article the author considers the legal basis for the repressive policy of the Russian Empire during the First Russian Revolution of 1905–1907. Attention is paid to the main articles of the Criminal Assembly of the Russian Empire, according to which the active participants in the 1905 revolution were broug ht to justice. The author analyzes the regulation of legal life in the South of Ukraine in conditions of a deep political crisis in the state. In addition, the article contains fragments of articles of the Criminal Assembly of the Russian Empire regarding the punishment of revolutionaries on the penal servitude in the early twentieth century. The author defends the idea that the First Russian Revolution gave impetus to the development of the system of military courts on a nationwide scale, which in turn became the basis for the organization of a powerful state repressive policy in the Russian Empire.
