The Role of Research Universities in Turkish Higher Education

Abstract
The place of research universities in higher education is essential as they contribute to the scientific and technological development of the country and offer pioneering education to students. These universities often have extensive research programs and offer students opportunities to learn about the latest knowledge and technologies in science and technology. Regarding the place of research universities in higher education, they play an essential role in increasing the competitiveness of the country in the field of science and technology by providing pioneering education and leading research in the areas of applied science and technology. In addition, research universities provide access to information and technological developments to their employees in the country's sectors and society in general. This study aims to determine the positions of 23 research universities in our country according to 13 indicators and their place in higher education. As a result of the study, it has been seen that 23 universities contribute to higher education as much as the other 200 universities in our country, especially in terms of research-based and postgraduate education indicators.
