The Role of Translation in Mutual Understanding of Different Cultures and Civilizations
Journal Title: Journal of Science and today’s world - Year 2014, Vol 3, Issue 4
Abstract
Every culture and civilization has their own perspectives toward different issues and traditions. Translation is one of the most important and accepted ways to bring cultures together and make the process of mutual communication among different cultures and nations as smooth as possible. As our world goes ahead to the globalization phenomenon, different cultures and nations need to understand each other. Translation plays a key role in mutual understanding and learning different unfamiliar cultures. As there are several differences among cultures and civilizations, translation does have an effect in mutual understanding of different nations, languages, cultures, religions and opinions. The purpose of this study is to investigate and review various viewpoints regarding the mutual connection existing among different cultures and languages. The facilitating role of translation in the process of mutual understanding among different cultures regarding anthropological aspects of cultural differences and translatability vs. untranslatability of cultural issues based on Whorf's and Chomsky's linguistic views have been discussed in detail in this article.
