THE ROLE THEATER PLAYS IN LIFE OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Journal Title: Szkoła Specjalna - Year 2009, Vol 2009, Issue 4

Abstract

The article presents a discussion on the way the essence of disability is understood, as well as art and works made by people with disabilities. The author suggests that the artistic activities of people with disabilities be termed creativity which is understood as “each conscious introduc- tion of a new order to the reality that surrounds us” (Grzesiak 2005, p.125). The studies on the “Disabled People’s Theater,” conducted with the technique of direct observation and question- naires, showed integrated, compensatory and entertaining functions of the theater. Theater activi- ties influenced the development of creativity in people with disabilities to a lesser extent.
