THE SOMMERFELD EFFECT
Journal Title: Romanian Journal of Acoustics and Vibration - Year 2015, Vol 12, Issue 1
Abstract
The Sommerfeld effect is a universal phenomenon which appears as a result of the law of energy conservation. Arnold Sommerfeld discovered this phenomenon in 1902, while making an experiment with a cantilever beam connected with an energy source at its free end. He detected the change of energy between the source and the beam. He observed that the motor has a speed which remains the same until it suddenly jumps to a much higher value when the driving frequency is closer to the natural frequency of the beam and the drive power increases further. Its amplitude jumps to a much lower value upon exceeding a critical input power.

Effect of Impact Mass on Tool Vibration and Cutting Performance During Turning of Hardened AISI4340 Steel
A major apprehension in manufacturing industry is the tool vibration, which has considerable influence on productivity and production costs. The present investigation aims at developing impact mass for suppressing tool v...
Investigation Composite Materials for its Sound Absorption Properties
This paper presents research on determining the sound absorption coefficient depending on frequency, for each sample, thus determining the sound absorption capacity of each obtained material. Materials were made from par...
