The survey of tourism events effects on host community

Abstract

Concurrent with the growth and development of tourism industry, the importance of tourism events are becoming more important day by day and people more enthusiastic than ever are willing to travel long distances in order to watch and participate in the events. The economic benefit of events is one of the key drivers for the growth and development of event tourism and consequently the tourism industry. Economic analysis of events explains why the events are held and what effects they can have on a region. Sadeh festival is celebrating the discovery of fire that is holds on Jan. 29 or the tenth of the Persian month of Bahman. This study aimed to assess the economic impact of the Sadeh Festival event in the city of Yazd. This research has been done on Yazd, the venue for the Sadeh Festival event and the travelers visiting this event are the statistical population of the study. The research sample consisted of 200 participants in the event which were randomly selected. The research method was descriptive - survey and required data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS software. Then the input-output table values and tourism competitiveness report was used to calculate the overall economic impact of this event on its minimum and maximum extent.
