Journal Title: Вісник Житомирського державного університету імені Івана Франка - Year 2017, Vol 89, Issue 3
Abstract
The paper deals with the technology of case-method in the professional teachers' training in Ukraine. Case method has proved to be quite popular with instructors of foreign languages. The case method is a teaching approach that envisages presenting the students with a case, making them act as a decision maker facing a particular problem. Applying cases covers a model of facilitating a discussion under which the students develop their skills of analyzing the situation, often through collaborative work, role playing, and intensive discussion, debate, and dialogue. Through such practice, students learn how to cope with the circumstances that will challenge them in the future in their lives. The emphasis is laid on the students' ability to reasoning and expressing ideas as well as on their capacity to structure the problem and workout a solution. Consideration is also given to the process as well as the substance of inquiry, and a case discussion which often ends with questions and conclusions. Тhe basic components of this technology are analyzed. It is noted that the work with cases in the classroom allows applying the theoretical knowledge to solve practical problems, helps to develop students' independent thinking, linking theory with practice. The work with cases is creative and is a determiner of the high level of teaching
