THE TEMPORAL MOTIVE COM PLEX IN N. BARSHE V’S PROSE

Abstract
Actuality of the article is determined by the necessity of complex studying literary process of the 1920–30s and lack of researching specificity of functioning of the temporal motive complex in Barshev’s prose. The study is based on the approach to analysis of literary work which was proposed by B. Gasparov and V. Tjupa. Motif is considered as any detail which is reproduced in the same text and therefore play important role for comprehension of author’s purpose. The separate motifs constitute the semantic fields which the researchers call ’motive complex’. Several motifs can be singled out in Barshev’s prose. They are ’relativity of time’, ’impossibility of measuring time’, ’hostile future and pursuit of past’, ’conflict of old and new life’, ’eternalistic motifs’ and so on. The study places Barshev’s works in the context of philosophical conceptions of the twentieth. In particular, they are the conception of time as the fourth dimension (proposed by P. Florensky) and Berdyaev’s approach to time and history. Barshev’s works are associated with eternalism according to which present, past and future exist simultaneously. The temporal motifs prove to be polysemantic and refer to literary tradition or mythological notion (in particular a cock as symbol of the world birth-death). It gives a possibility to reckon the works as philosophical modernistic prose. The temporal motifs are the part of author’s ontology, and other its components (motifs of nature powers, hollow and silence) requires the further research.
