The transformations of the teaching work: being a teacher today

Journal Title: Práxis Educativa - Year 2018, Vol 13, Issue 2

Abstract

In this article, we critically analyze the social and professional profile typical of the contemporary teacher. We are interested in addressing the intrinsic relationship between its emergence and the Toyoist model of production that was gradually disseminated in the central capitalist countries from the second half of the 1970s onwards. In tune with the changes brought about in the reorganization of capitalist accumulation, the social activity assumed by the teachers acquired new characteristics, outlining a new teaching profile based on the diffusion of the theses of the ‘reflective teacher’, in tune with the new necessities of the labor world. We point out some aspects of the typical corollary of the flexible reorganization of predominantly toyotist production and the related educational reforms of the 1990s, a process driven by the new resolutions and educational plans, by policies geared towards teacher education, curriculum and pedagogical practices undertaken by the Brazilian State.
