The union processes at the western eparchies of the Kyiv metropolis in the Ukrainian historiography of the fi rst half of the ХVІІІ century

Abstract
The article analyses the contribution of the Ukrainian church of Galician historiography of the ¿ rst half of the XVIII century to the investigation of the problem of transition of the western eparchies of the Kyiv metropolis to the union. There was an attempt to illuminate the peculiarities of the Ukrainian union-science’s development during the mentioned period, to show the main tendencies in the analysis of the theme, to ¿ nd out the investigations’ achievements and defects. It is asserted, that the scientists of that time initiated the investigation of the union processes at the region, substantiated the objective and national protective condition of the pro-union activity of the Ruthenian Church hierarchy, characterized the role of the government circles of the Commonwealth in the distribution of the union. It is known that the achievements of the scientists of the XVIII century have been used not only by the church, but also by the mundane historiography and play an important role for the nowadays union sciences. The political circumstances and the level of the history science of that time had an inÀ uence on the quality of the investigation of the historians of the XVIII century. It is emphasised that the meaning of the ¿ rst works from the union theme is determined not through the expositor’s conclusions and the disclosure of the historic tendencies, but through the assembled documentary narrative.
