The Views And Expectations Related To Work Placement Of People With Schizophrenia: A Qualitative Study

Abstract

Aim: This study is aimed to determine some problems related to work placement of people with schizophrenia and their maintaining this work; obstacles for having work and benefits of having work. For determining these problems, the views, expectations and experiments of people with schizophrenia were asked. Method: In the study, in depth-interview technique was used in order to determine the problems lived by people with schizophrenia when they have not a job and the factors that inhibit to get a job in them. The patients with schizophrenia member of ‘İzmit Our Garden Relatives of Schizophrenia Cooperation Association' with 25 people with schizophrenia constituted of the universe. Results: After the evaluation of qualitative data; 5 main contents included in the problems and suggestions of patients were determined. Theme 1. Meaning attributed to Work, Theme 2. Obstacles to Employment, Theme 3. Experiences of Employees, Theme 4. Emotions experienced when leaving work, Theme 5. Recommendations to Increase Job Placements. Conclusions: People with schizophrenia supporting the by giving them a job could be an opportunity for their socialization and also it could increase their self-confidence. The importance of ensuring job opportunities under the supervision and supervision of the members of the health team in order to ensure the placement of the schizophrenic individuals, it was decided to organize informative meetings about the disease and follow up the negative news in the media in order to remove prejudices.
