THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS OF VARIATION OF AXIAL FORCE IN THE SCREW CONNECTIONS

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2011, Vol 240, Issue 6

Abstract

Two studies show a scatter in the values of initial-clamp-bolt force data during the assembly of screw connections. Theoretical analysis is based on the friction coefficient of variation even for the same type of material screws. In practice, using different materials of construction further enhances its range of variability. This causes a large scatter of values in the bolt-axial force as a function of torque. Analysis of the experimental study involves the variability of the coefficient of friction depending on the type of cover screws. The study suggests two types of screws to stabilise the axial force as a function of torque, as well as increase its value in relation to uncoated screws. The use of a cover can damage the screw joint during assembly.
