Theoretical and practical approaches to assessing liquidity of the banking system

Abstract
The article deals with the main theoretical and methodological provisions for assessing the liquidity of the banking system of Ukraine. Also there were determined the structural elements of liquidity and was considered the world experience in forming reserves of banks. The article carried out the analysis of the current state of liquidity of the banking system was and on the basis of the obtained results, were developed coefficients for its effective evaluation. In addition, article investigates the dynamics of optimal and excess liquidity level, and gives definitions of these concepts. The value of the optimum level was obtained on the basis of the analysis of the system level balance of banks’ funds on correspondent accounts in the NBU. Considered the need to improve existing approaches to liquidity management, to build an effective mechanism for predicting the liquidity of commercial banks in order to adapt them to the current conditions of functioning of the banking system of Ukraine.
