To Study and Compare Efficacy of Ropivacaine and Bupivacaine for Caudal Analgesia in Paediatric Patients
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Anesthesia and Analgesia - Year 2019, Vol 6, Issue 1
Abstract
Aims and objectives: The aim of the study was to compare quality and duration of intra and post operative analgesia and need of rescue analgesia of 0.5 ml/kg of 0.25% Bupivacaine. and 0.5 ml/kg of 0.2% Ropivacaine. Methodology: We conducted a prospective, randomized, double blind study, in which 60 paediatric patients undergoing lower abdominal and genitourinary surgeries. Group A received 0.5 ml/kg of 0.25% Bupivacaine and Group B received 0.5 ml/kg of 0.2% Ropivacaine. Quality and duration of motor block, Adjunct to general anaesthesia, Margin of safety of ropivacaine over Bupivacaine was assessed. Results: Both the drugs provided post-operative analgesiaMean duration of post-operative analgesia is 344.5±29.37 min in group A & that In group B is 346.3±10.66 min (paired) two tailed p value is 0.749 which is comparable & statistically not significant. Mean duration of motor block in group A is 176.6±21.02 min and in group B was 103.8±11.79 min with P value of 0.0001 which is statistically significant. The incidence of the side effect between the two groups is not statistically significant. Conclusion: Caudal block with 0.2% Ropivacaine resulted in equal duration of analgesia with less duration of motor block as compared with 0.25% caudal Bupivacaine, without an increase in incidence of side effects when administered pre-operatively in a volume of 0.5 ml/kg to children undergoing lower abdominal and urogenital surgeries.

Comparative Study between Intravenous Clonidine and Intravenous Fentanyl to Attenuate Hemodynamic Response to Laryngoscopy and Tracheal Intubation
Background: Laryngoscopy and intubation are associated with acute hemodynamic responses. In susceptible patients even this short period (2-7 minutes) of hypertension and tachycardia can result in myocardial ischemia or i...
Comparison between Incidence of Emergence Agitation in Pre-school Age Group with that of Older Children undergoing Sevoflurane Anaesthesia
Background: Emergence agitation (EA) is a known fact after general anaesthesia which is observed more in children and that too after sevoflurane anaesthesia. Dexmedetomidine and propofol are both known to reduce EA when...

Supraclavicular Versus Infraclavicular Approach of Subclavian Vein Cannulation in ICU Patients
Background: Subclavian vein is generally preferred in ICU for central venous access. Infraclavicular and supraclavicular approaches are the two techniques of subclavian venous catheterisation. Infraclavicular approach to...
Comparative Study of Intrathecal Bupivacaine 0.5% and Intrathecal Bupivacaine 0.5% with Fentanyl in Pre-Eclamptic Parturients Undergoing Elective Caesarean Section
Aim: To evaluate the time of onset, duration of sensory blockade & motor blockade, haemodynamic effects, time duration of post-operative analgesia as well as complications of intrathecal Bupivacaine 0.5% and intrathecal...
