TOMERS and Academic Achievement in Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language

Abstract
The aim of this research is to determine how effectively international students who come to Turkey for education can use Turkish language in their academic life. The research was carried out with a pattern of phenomenological study from qualitative research methods. The data of the study were collected by interviewing a total of 9 international students who come to Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University for studying in the field of Science, Social Sciences and Health Sciences in in 2016-2017 academic year. Research data were obtained through interview questions and descriptive analysis method was applied to the obtained data. Semi-structured interview method was used as data collection tool. In the research, the daily and academic relations of the Turkish language education that the students took at TÖMER were assessed. As a result, Turkish education in TÖMER has been found to contribute to everyday life, but it has been understood that TÖMER has been inadequate at some point in preparing students' academic life.
