Transformation of the energy sectors of EU and Ukraine: renewable energy sources

Abstract

The article highlights the problems that encourage the European Union and Ukraine to move towards renewable energy sources. Nowadays, there is a gradual change in the world technological structure based on the use of traditional energy based on fossil resources that are exhaustive. Accordingly, the rapid deployment of «clean» energy technologies occupies leading positions in the world. The purpose of the article is to analyze the current state of the energy sector of the EU countries and Ukraine, to find out the reasons for the transformation of theirs energy sector. The scientific novelty of the article is to identify, based on European experience, key factors for the development of renewable energy sources in Ukraine. Conclusions. Issues related to the use of energy resources are becoming more urgent in the world due to the increase in prices for them with a large share of energy-intensive industries in the gross domestic product. Our country faces the important task of reducing energy consumption through the use of energy-saving technologies and the transition to the use of renewable energy sources. However, the main disadvantage of using the latter is the stochasticity of energy flows, namely, the frequency of arrival and variability of energy potential, which to date has caused significant complications in many cases of their use and did not meet the current requirements of energy supply to consumers. The current technologies used for renewable energy, as well as the mechanisms of rational combination and use, have eliminated obstacles to their large-scale implementation and, thus, lead to the development of renewable energy both in the world and in Ukraine. The article notes that hydrogen is the energy carrier of the future for solving important energy and environmental problems. The Sustainable Development Strategy of Ukraine up to 2030 is primarily human-oriented and improving the quality of life in a favorable socio-economic environment and in an environmentally friendly environment. Ukraine, in its development, seeks to increase the share of «green» energy in the energy balance of the country and is guided by the experience of the countries of the world, in particular by the EU countries. The key factors for the development of renewable energy sources in Ukraine are: the need to improve the environmental state; international obligations; exhaustion of traditional fuel and energy resources; an urgent need to overcome the dependence on energy importation.
