TURKEY’S ATTEMPTS TO CONSERVE STATUS QUO IN CYPRUS AND THE OFFICIAL VISIT OF MAKARIOS TO ANKARA

Abstract

Thepurpose of thisstudy is toanalyzeTurkey’spoliticalattitudetowardspoliticalsystem in CyprusRepublicfounded in 1960. Thefirst step of thestudy is todiscussifTurkeychangedtheirpoliticalopinion on Cyprusafter 1960 coupd’etat. Then, it is emphasisedthatTurkeytooksomeprecautionstoconservestatusquo in Cyprus. Inthiscontext, theposition of ambassador Emin DırvanaandMakarios’svisitto Ankara arestated. Besides, TurkishCypriotleadersandtheirrelationshipwith Ankara arealsoincluded in thestudy. Thestudy is especiallyunique in terms of handlingtheignoredissueswhichtookplace in Cyprusbetween 1960 and 1962. It is concluded in thestudythatTurkeydidabsolutelyanything but didn’tachieveanyresults.
