Journal Title: Annuals of the Administration and Law - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 0

Abstract

Revolution of 1917 in Russian Imperium happened in February (according to Julian calendar) or in March (according to Georgian calendar used in Western Europe). As a result, in the first phase of the revolution, tsar Nicholas II of Russia, abdicated which caused the fall of the Romanov dynasty. The Provisional Government was brought into power. The First World War was ongoing and Russia suffered severe defeats. The country was ruled by chaos, various political groups were fighting against each other. Many nations started their fight for independence from Russian Empire. The most significant events happened in Ukraine. The national (nationalistic) activists set up own governmental authority: Central Council of Ukraine. And there were domestic fights in Ukraine as well. As commonly known, in October / November 1917 Bolsheviks led their forces in Petrograd (modern day Saint Petersburg), then capital of Russia, against Provisional Government, and took over the power in Russia. A new phase of war started, including war between Russian and Ukraine.
