Ultrasound guided popliteal sciatic and femoral nerve block for below knee surgeries
Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Anesthesiology - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 1
Abstract
Many patients with older age group and co morbidities face multiple problems to undergo surgeries of the lower limb patients with cardiac co-morbidities have limitations with anaesthesia techniques as spinal anaesthesia is contraindicated in patients having low ejection fraction. Patients having infective pathologies with raised total leucocyte count also cannot be given spinal anaesthesia. Thus in these patients general anaesthesia is preferred over spinal anaesthesia. This makes the patient undergo a wide range of shortcomings like ventilatory support, desaturation, prolonged hospital stay, Increased cost of the ICU stay etc. We aimed at reducing all these short comings in 3 patients undergoing below knee surgeries by giving them ultrasound guided popliteal sciatic nerve block and femoral nerve block for intra operative anaesthesia.

Comparing effect of Phenylephrine and ephedrine in patients undergoing lower segment caesarean section under spinal anaesthesia
Background: Spinal anesthesia, a frequently used technique for caesarean delivery may be associated with maternal hypotension in as many 85% of patients. Various vasopressor have been studied for the treatment. Aim: The...
A double blind, randomized, controlled trial to study the effect of dexmedetomidine on hemodynamic and recovery responses during tracheal extubation
Background: Extubation is known to produce significant hemodynamic disturbances. Literature claims that dexmedetomidine, provides excellent cardiovascular stability, no respiratory depression and may be a useful adjunct...
Unilateral spinal anaesthesia: An alternative and effective approach in infra-umbilical surgeries in geriatric population
Background: Spinal anaesthesia is simple, easy to administered and reliable cost-effective technique that has been widely used for infra-umbilical surgery. For day care surgical treatment of infra-umbilical origin on one...
Hemodynamic variables and side effects of 0.75% preservative free Ropivacaine for lower abdominal surgeries
Bupivacaine has been shown to have selective cardiac effects related to the slow rate at which it dissociates from the sodium channel.4, 13 An important aspects of this toxicity is that it involves a significant degree o...
A randomized, prospective, comparative study to evaluate the motor blockade properties of 3ml of 0.5% isobaric levobupivacaine and 3ml of 0.5% isobaric ropivacaine for spinal anaesthesia in patients undergoing elective lower limb orthopaedic surgeries
Background: Levobupivacaine is S (-) enantiomer of bupivacaine. It is somewhat less cardiotoxic than the racemic bupivacaine. It seems to be an attractive alternative to Bupivacaine. Ropivacaine is a long acting regional...
