Ultrasound guided popliteal sciatic and femoral nerve block for below knee surgeries
Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Anesthesiology - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 1
Abstract
Many patients with older age group and co morbidities face multiple problems to undergo surgeries of the lower limb patients with cardiac co-morbidities have limitations with anaesthesia techniques as spinal anaesthesia is contraindicated in patients having low ejection fraction. Patients having infective pathologies with raised total leucocyte count also cannot be given spinal anaesthesia. Thus in these patients general anaesthesia is preferred over spinal anaesthesia. This makes the patient undergo a wide range of shortcomings like ventilatory support, desaturation, prolonged hospital stay, Increased cost of the ICU stay etc. We aimed at reducing all these short comings in 3 patients undergoing below knee surgeries by giving them ultrasound guided popliteal sciatic nerve block and femoral nerve block for intra operative anaesthesia.

General anaesthesia versus combined spinal plus general anaesthesia for elective lumbar spine surgeries: A randomized comparative study
Background: Lumbar spine surgeries are most commonly performed under general anaesthesia. It allows better patient satisfaction and prolong surgeries but can be accompanied by several perioperative morbidities. Spinal an...
A prospective, randomized study to compare epidural bupivacaine 0.125% and ropivacaine 0.2% with fentanyl combination for post-operative analgesia in lower abdominal and lower limb surgeries
Background: A combination of local anesthetic agent with opioids like fentanyl administered in the epidural space provides effective postoperative analgesia in a lower dose to achieve the desired analgesic effect. Aim: T...
Evaluation of the effects of P6 acupressure application on postoperative nausea and vomiting during laparoscopic cholecystectomy
Background: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) are most common and distressing complication of anesthesia. Acupressure at P6 acupoint is non-pharmacological method which can reduce postoperative nausea and vomiting...
Effect of spinal anaesthesia on perioperative hyperglycemia in diabetic patients undergoing lower limb orthopaedic surgeries
Background and Aims: Surgery evokes stress response resulting in increased secretion of counter-regulatory hormones (catecholamines, cortisol, glucagon, and growth hormone) and excessive release of inflammatory cytokines...
