Uncertainty Evaluation of Coordinate Measuring Machine for Diameter Measurement Based on Monte Carlo Method

Abstract

The complete measurement results were composed of measurement estimation and measurement uncertainty,but coordinate measuring machine( CMM) only provided an estimated value of the measured parameters in the practical application. Taking diameter measurement by using CMM as an example,uncertainty sources which may influence the measurement were analyzed and the uncertainty model of specific task was discussed. The method based on guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement( GUM) and Monte Carlo method( MCM) were presented to evaluate the measurement uncertainty. Moreover,the methods were proven to be feasible by the example of uncertainty estimation for diameter measurement of an experimental sample. The comparison result indicates that MCM is convenient and effective when the measurement model is nonlinear,or the input quantities being subject to many different distribution types.
