Abstract
The evolution and multifaceted application of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are evidence of innovation and technological progress in modern society. This comprehensive study focuses on the historical evolution, fundamental properties, and universal application of LEDs, exploring their significance in lighting technology and beyond. Tracing the historical trajectory from the birth of electroluminescence to the invention of the first visible LED and subsequent breakthroughs in color gamut expansion and efficiency, this study highlights key milestones defining the evolution of LED technology. An analysis of the fundamental properties of LEDs, including efficiency, color gamut and durability, highlights their superiority over traditional lighting sources. The assessment shows exceptional energy efficiency, diverse color gamut and long service life of LEDs, positioning them as sustainable alternatives with significant energy saving potential.
