Journal Title: Argotica - Year 2012, Vol 0, Issue 1
Abstract
This article intends to present vocabulary slang, referring only to phraseological units specifically for the detention environment. These were collected from research conducted in prisons from Arad, Bucharest respectively, during the period of 2007 until 2010. There were used as methods of obtaining the material slang, questionnaire and personal/group interview. Prisoners were selected by the prison psychologist, in this sense, according to age, reason for detention, educational level, detention period, and imprisonment condition. Thus, prisoners were interviewed sample of 100 adult subjects, some of whom were male prisoners and others female, who were in different detention regimes depending on the seriousness of the offense committed: dark regime (with total isolation and deprivation of rights), semi-closed (semi total isolation and deprivation of rights), open (partial isolation) and semi (with no isolation and certain rights). The theme of interview was expressed as interrogative: How do you talk in prison? and Why you speak it?, in this way aiming the identification of slang language features and the motivation of slang use. We opted for the detention environment research area, considering that in the context of special concentration has developed a register of slang and I wanted to analyze it. During the research, I was accompanied by the prison psychologist, this retreating during the interview because of the desire to leave freedom of speech of the person.
