Pratiques langagières des cités dans Un homme, ça ne pleure pas de Faïza Guène
Journal Title: Argotica - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 1
Abstract
The affirmation of a new linguistic identity in French suburbs, correlated with social identity of the multiethnic youth, seems to be felt as well in French literature with the publication of many novels characterized by the presence of Français Contemporain des Cités (F.C.C.). In this context, Faiza Guène’s latest novel, Un homme, ça ne pleure pas (2014) (‘Real Men don’t Cry’), is a very orig-inal example of the use of this sociolinguistic variation in the context that is analyzed in this paper. It will be argued in this paper, that compared with her first two novels, Kiffe kiffe demain (2004) (Just like Tomorrow, 2006, translated by Sarah Ardizzone; Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow, 2006, translated by Sarah Adams) and Du rêve pour les oufs (2006) (Dreams from the Endz, 2008), the novel Un homme, ça ne pleure pas marks a new departure in writing. This article proposes to analyze some examples of enunciation and linguistic matrices of the linguistic acts that shape speakers’ identity.
