UPDATED LEXIS ON INTERNET BLOGS’ MATERIAL

Abstract

Due to the revival of Ukrainian statehood, Ukrainian consciousness, national identity, culture and traditions, recent irrelevant speech is being renewed. The reason for this revival is the reaction of language lexical fund on social and political changes within the country. Thus lexical level is not only enriched with new units but also has long forgotten lexems to accord the new conditions of society. Updating is a specific movement of Ukrainian lexis or long learned borrowings from the periphery of the lexical system to its core. Such process leads to an increase of the word’s functional activity, frequency of use, neutralization of the stylistic markings. It also provides word building activity, creation of derivated words, obtaining new meanings and ability to enter into syntagmatic relations with other words. Updated lexis is included into predefined functional groups of words (literary words) and socially conditioned word groups (dialect, slang and common speech). The aim of our study is to trace the process of lexis updating, the redistribution of the functional and stylistic characteristics of updated units compared with the norms of 30–80’s XX century. Analysed material is represented by the texts of Internet blogs posted on the website «LIGA: Blogs». Semantic and functional lexical changes and its actualization are clearly represented in the Ukrainian language dictionary in 11 volumes (ULD). It is the largest and the most fundamental work that reflects the standards of 30-80’s XX century. This research deals with stylistically marked lexis (units of remark spoken and word marks which marked a distinct positive (grand) or negative assessment (familiarity, disrespectful, vulgar); chronologically marked (historicisms and archaisms); partly marked (vocabulary that marked rarely); geographically marked (regionalisms and dialectisms); words that are interpreted by the model of "the same thing" and the unit is actively used but absent in the ULD register. Modern dynamic processes in Ukrainian language and directly lexical changes require further in-depth research. Updating is the powerful and important process that clearly demonstrates all the changes in society. Updated lexis must be standardized and incorporated in lexicographical dictionary of modern Ukrainian language.
