Use of signalization for chemical protection of poppy against poppy root weevil ([i]Stenocarus ruficornis[/i] Stephens)

Abstract

In the years 2010 and 2011 small-plot trials with oilseed poppy, variety Major, were established and evaluated at the research station FAPPZ CULS Červený Újezd (district Prague – West). The aim of these trials was to determine the time of the poppy root weevil (Stenocarus ruficornis Stephens) attack on poppy-plants cultivated as attractants, and then to find out a suitable time of foliar insecticide applications against this phytophagous insect. The effectiveness of individual variants and individual insecticides was evaluated by counting of the number of larvae eating hales on poppy roots. There was a significant reduction of the larvae induced damages on the roots after the targeted foliar insecticide applications. Additional treatment with insecticides against the poppy root weevil can be used prospectively in the poppy cultivation technology when using these signalization methods.
