Usefulness of AC-impedance spectroscopy technique in occlusal caries detection – own investigations
Journal Title: Current Issues in Pharmacy and Medical Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 26, Issue 4
Abstract
Exact caries detection and monitoring over time are important in modern clinical caries management. Especially the detection before cavitation occurs and the control of initial lesions are of significance because an accurate diagnosis can reduce the need for drilling and filling. Among many techniques, impedance spectroscopy technique is one of the proposed. The aim of the study was to determine dental caries clinically and characterize its bio-impedance to gain detailed information about the progression of the process. Human extracted permanent premolars and molars were used in this in-vitro experiment. The teeth were unrestored and undamaged, except of caries. Their occlusal surfaces were examined by dentists according to Universal Visual Scoring System and assessed with CarieScan PRO™. The statistical analysis of obtained results revealed that clinical examination and AC-impedance spectroscopy measurements showed differences in impedance depending on changes and stages in caries progress. Preliminary results from this research indicate that the device using AC-impedance spectroscopy may be a useful additional aid for caries diagnosis together with clinical examination.

Influence of astemizole, an H1 receptor antagonist, on the locomotors activity of carbamazepine and valproate in mice
In the present study, we examined the influence of the second generation H1 receptor antagonist, astemizole, co-administered with carbamazepine and valproate on the exploratory and spontaneous activities in mice. Locomot...
Amphetamine in illegally produced phenylethylamine – intentional action or failed synthesis of a designer drug
On the Polish „drug scene”, the products containing very low amounts of amphetamine offered as „pure” amphetamine are increasingly common. Occasionally, 1-phenylethylamine (1-PEA) is added to these products. The concentr...
The influence of the eutectic mixtures: salicylic acid – menthol and benzocaine – menthol on physical properties of the creams with fluconazole
Fluconazole is used in treatment of the surface mycoses of the skin. Menthol, salicylic acid and benzocaine are the components of many preparations for topical use. When mixed they form the eutectic mixtures. The purpose...
Temporomandibular joint assessment in patients with articular disc displacement by way of computed tomography - radiological parameters of shape, size and location of mandibular heads
Conventional and modern methods of radiological imaging are often used in the diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disorders, and the CT technique is particularly characterized by an excellent visualization of bony struc...
An adverse events potential costs analysis based on Drug Programs in Poland. Dermatology focus
The aim of the project, carried out within the Polish Society for Pharmacoeconomics (PTFE), was to estimate the potential costs of treatment of the side effects which (theoretically) may occur as a result of treatments f...
