Abstract
In the case of Polish citizens staying abroad, a consul of the Republic of Poland is the authority appointed to receive declarations necessary to recognise paternity. In the first place, the Polish consul should establish the law relevant for the substantive and formal grounds for the act of paternity recognition as well as the capacity of the persons performing this act. Naturally, in practice the Polish consul will most frequently apply Polish substantive law.
