Journal Title: Przegląd Pediatryczny - Year 2009, Vol 39, Issue 2

Abstract

Introduction: In Poland, the officially reported vaccination coverage is around 95%, however CNS disorders are accounted for most contraindicated. The aim of the study was the analysis of realisation of the vaccinations in children with neurological problems and the assessment of parents knowledge about vaccination. Material and methods: We examined 153 children from neurology outpatient clinic between July and October 2008. Results: 91% of children were vaccinated with individual schedule. Only 29% have been already vaccinated according to the Polish Childhood Vaccination Schedule. Contraindication against at least one vaccine was found in 60 (50%) children. Most of them (37.6%) were temporary. More than half of them (62.5%) assessed their own information on prophylactic vaccinations as little and only 4.2% as good. Many parents did not know any recommended vaccination. Every ninth child (11%) underwent additional vaccinations. The main sources of information on prophylactic vaccinations in these families were family doctor (58.3%). Conclusion: The rates of incomplete immunization in children with CNS disorders are too often. Children with neurological problems should be vaccine according to individual vaccination schedule.
