Variability of some quantitative traits in DH line populations of winter oilseed rape obtained from F1 hybrids of reciprocal crosses

Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2013, Vol 34, Issue 2

Abstract

The aim of this study was to estimate the diversity of doubled haploid in terms of yield, yield structure, fat and three fatty acids content, to determine a correlation between the studied traits and their heritability and make a cluster of the studied objects in terms of several features together. Two doubled haploid populations derived from F1 hybrids resulting from reciprocal crosses between var. Californium and DH W-15 as well as parental forms were studied. Two-year field experiments involving 38 DH lines and parental forms, were conducted in a randomized complete block with three replications. In order to determine the multidimensional differences between genotypes, a multivariate analyses of variance were conducted. As a measure of multidimensional similarity between DH lines and parental forms Mahalanobis distances were used. On the basis of Mahalanobis distances, the dendrograms of similarities between genotypes for two sets of traits were created using hierarchical clustering method. In the studied populations the greatest variability has been observed for the number of pods per plant, and the lowest for the fat and oleic acid content. Comparing the coefficients of variation for parental forms, the most variable feature was the number of branches, and the most stable was the fat content. Seed yield was positively correlated with the number of branches and number of pods per plant and negatively with thousand seed weight. Unfavorable relationship was revealed between the yield of seeds and oleic acid content (r = 0.30**) and lowered content of linolenic acid. Heritability in the broad sense varied from of 0.32 for the number of branches to 0.94 for fat content. Multidimensional analysis of doubled haploid lines and their parental forms showed their high diversity of each group of traits, although did not permit to separate a group of genotypes with the best agronomic value.
