When fresh frosen plasma is clinically efective in neonate with clotting disorders?

Journal Title: Nowa Pediatria - Year 2015, Vol 19, Issue 3

Abstract

The authors of the publication listed and described preparations of plasma available for transfusion. They mention the method of processing and preparing for safe applying with newborn babies. In the text we may also read about significant differences between the preparations which are applied and contraindications to their transfusion. This paper discusses the most common cause of bleeding in the neonatal period, depending on the state and maturity of the child. We can also find out about the separation of the homeostasis in the first month of life and the resulting different range of standards examined factors and clotting times. An interpretation of performed examinations was described as well. In 2004 the indications for use of plasma preparations were drawn up by the British Committee for Standards in Haematology (BCSH). In given recommendations few situations in which the supply of plasma is justified and those which proved lack of efficacy plasma were mentioned. In the paper authors described known and possible complications arising from taking these preparations. Regardless of the existing recommendations the number of performed transfusions is growing up. The highest one is in intensive care neonatal units. The authors analyse the causes of increased consumption of plasma products in the world. From the published data we see that even in the 30% of cases plasma is being given off the record, most often prophylactically. The most frequently cited reasons include the risk of bleeding into the central nervous system in newborns, preterm birth and abnormal coagulation.
