WHY MICHAEL NEY BECAME MARSHAL OF FRANCE?

Abstract

This article says about famous retreat of marshal Ney from Smolensk to Orsza. It is the first trial in historiography to show the role of marshal Ney and colonel Konstanty Przebendowski in saving of rear guard corpse of the Great Army. It shows true story showing real hero of escape of Ney’s corpse remains from Russian encirclement. It also shows the cause of confering on Ney the title of prince of Moscow. Ney in fact led to destruction of his corpse, while colonel Przebendowski saved remains of the corpse. Nei as marshal – symbol that was needed for Napoleon. The history covered with dust the memory of the deed of Colonel Pshebendovskoho. A myth is created in French historiography, that Marshal Nei with a carbine in his hand, shoulder to shoulder with his soldiers, brought the remains of his corps from the Russian surrounding. Symbol of Nei, as the legend, continued developing by next authors who write on this subject. This article is an attempt of «decanonization» of the history, restitution to the historiography the true role of Colonel Pshebendovskoho – in this most famous for his dramatic effect in phase of Napoleon’s return from Russia, the rear guard soldiers withdrawal of the Grand Army from Krasnoho, the role, that was selected for Marshal Nei Prince Elchinhen by Napoleon and approved by French historians.
