Will NanoMedicine Prove to be a Game Changer in Diabetes?

Journal Title: Journal of Medical Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 17, Issue 1

Abstract

Diabetes is not one but 5 different complex disorders that arises from various causes, including dysregulated glucose sensing or insulin secretion (maturity-onset diabetes of the young, MODY), autoimmune-mediated β–cell destruction (type 1), or insufficient compensation for peripheral insulin resistance (type 2). Type 2 diabetes afflicts millions of people worldwide, the leading cause of blindness, kidney failure, and amputation among adults a major health problem that’s increasingly getting worse. However, with the advent of nanomedicine it has generated an immense interest among nanotechnologists, endocrinologists as well academic researchers, as it is imperative that effective monitoring and treatment options to be developed to successfully manage and control diabetes.
