Abstract
This article tries to interpret Mazepa by Juliusz Słowacki concentrating on existential motifs in the poet’s works. The interpretation key of this analysis is the Funeral Object (a definition proposed by Jan Urbain), which describes ontological status of the protagonists, the level of their consciousness as well as their spiritual development.
