Wpływ stopniowej poprawy jakości wody w rzece Ner na regenerację ichtiofauny

Journal Title: Roczniki Naukowe Polskiego Związku Wędkarskiego - Year 2010, Vol 23, Issue

Abstract

The Ner River (largest right-side tributary of the middle Warta River, Odra River system) was electrofished at 10 sites during four sampling terms (2000, 2002, 2004, 2005). The quality of water in the river, especially in its middle and lower course, has been influenced by sewage from the industrial agglomeration of Łódź (population of one million) for the latest several decades; till 2002, when the construction of the major sewage treatment plant (STP) in the agglomeration was finished, by sewage from Łódź, and till 2005 by industrial and domestic sewage from the town of Pabianice (population of 70 thousand) flowing along the Dobrzynka Stream and emptying into the Ner River with omission of STP. In 2000–2002 in the middle course of the Ner (sites 4–7) only one perch, one roach, two prussian carp and a few stickleback specimens were sampled. After all divisions of the STP started operating in 2002 fish species extended a little their occurrence ranges in the middle course although they were still under the influence of toxic compounds accumulated in bottom sediments. In the lower course (sites 8–10) of the Ner River, fish fauna regeneration was more advanced because of migrants from the Warta River and a longer distance from the agglomeration of Łódź. In general in the lower course a change from a high dominance of stagnophils to high dominance of eurytopic species accompanied by rheophils was observed. The recorded fish fauna regeneration was natural, because the Polish Angling Association has been stocking the river in the middle and lower courses only since 2005.
