Wybrane aspekty biblijnego obrazu Maryi
Journal Title: Studia Salvatoriana Polonica - Year 2016, Vol 10, Issue
Abstract
Nowadays many people ask about the biblical image of Mary. The elements of this image which are essential for Christian life, can be found on the pages of New Testament, though, to understand them, we sometimes need to look at the excerpts of the Old Testament. Chronologically speaking, the last details in the biblical portrait of Mary come from the beloved disciple of Jesus, John. Analyzed quotes about the presence of Mary at the wedding at Cana (John 2,1-12) and at the foot of the cross (John 19,25-27), are the classic texts about Her in the fourth Gospel. It is characteristic that both texts, on the basis of a great inclusion, are at the beginning and at the end of the Public Ministry of Jesus. Both in Cana, and in the scene at the foot of the cross Jesus addresses Mary by using the expression „Woman”. The appearance of this expression in the Apocalypse of John is not accidental for the interpretation of the Rev 12. With the help of this term He focuses our attention on the new mission of Mary at the time of His Messianic revelation. In the light of the message of the fourth Gospel Mary totally believes in the divine power of Jesus. The research paper demonstrates how valuable, important and irreplaceable a source is the Gospel according to St. John in the process of recognition of the role Mary plays in the Salvation plan of her Son. This confirms the validity of Origen’s thesis that Gospels are the pinnacle of the whole Scripture and that John’s Gospel is the pinnacle of all Gospels.
