Abstract

The introductory article of this special issue written by Dean Teresa Pękala has a historical character and it is the attempt to present the intellectual atmosphere of the philosophical and sociological circles of the Department. The author defines the uniqueness and method of the scientific research in both of these Departments and carries out a retrospective view of the research area of the present and former research workers. The review is accompanied by the reflection on the relevance of presented visions of humanity and science in the context of their philosophical conceptions. The second part of the text is devoted to a brief characterization of the education quality, the academic staff, curriculums, and teaching basis in the Department. Final remarks, being the summary of the article, invite to a thoughtful reflection on the role of philosophy and sociology in the process of shaping social and cultural reality.
