Abstract
Cezary Mordka’s article is rich in factual material. The author in a quite detailed way presents the beginnings of the Philosophy and Sociology Department, describes persons in charge, scientific and teaching basis, specificity of studies, non - obligatory lectures, grant projects and scientific students’ associations. The emphasis is especially put on the description of the whole range of activities carried out by both Institutes and researches done there. The last part of the article is devoted to a short review of the accomplishments of the department’s academic staff. The synthesis done by the author allows in a simple way not only to trace back the events which have a significant influence on the present structure of the Department, but also reveals it as a place, where the atmosphere and devotion to the academic work and educational efforts for new generation of students allow fully to justify a feeling of pride.
