Abstract
In the article the author examines the legal mechanism of providing and protecting maternity through the prism of the evolution of international standards in this regard. The key international legal acts of the International Labor Organization, defining maternity protection and the special rights of women working, are analyzed. Other international legal documents specifying and developing the rights of employed women are described.
