Abstract
This article aims at presenting an approach of the thoughts of Hedley Bull and Clifford Geertz on the place and dimension of culture in their theories. First, I introduce the place of culture in Bull’s writings and point out the main aspects of his theory which can be enriched by the writings of Clifford Geertz. I intend to show the place and the notion of culture for studying international relations, taking as a point of departure the notion of intersubjectivity, latent in both theorists. At the end, I present a case-study interpreting the way through which the discourses of George W. Bush, Tony Blair and Jose Maria Aznar were structured by them to legitimize the invasion of Iraq, on March 16, 2003.
