Journal Title: Journal of the Human and Social Science Researches - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 1

Abstract

In the 19th, modern states have made intensive efforts to gather different communities in their constituents around a national consciousness. In the direction of these developments, important changes took place in every field from everyday life to mind in the Ottoman State. The fundamental and lasting changes that started with Tanzimat have been influential in almost every part of the Ottoman society. Along with these changes, the Ottoman statesmen were disturbed because of the separatist approaches arising from the identity awareness that occurred among the non-muslims. Maintainning the presence of non-muslims under Ottoman rule was very important in term of Ottoman administrators. According to them, the way of achieving this is to create a sense of belonging towards the Ottomans in non-muslims. As a matter of fact, this feeling was tried to be built with an official Turkish language nationalism. Mentioned the language nationalism needed to make some radical changes both in the man-agement understanding of the Ottoman State and in the education system.
