AGE AND GENDER PECULIARITIES OF BIOCHEMICAL INDICATORS, LIPID AND CYTOKIN BLOOD PROFILES IN NONVIRAL CHRONIC HEPATITIS PATIENTS
Journal Title: Гепатологія - Year 2017, Vol 37, Issue 3
Abstract
Currently, an increase in the incidence of nonviral chronic hepatitis is observed in Ukraine and worldwide. Pro and anti-infl ammatory cytokines play an active role in the pathogenesis of chronic hepatitis, acting as mediators of hepatocyte apoptosis and necrosis activity, infl ammation and fi brosis of the liver tissue. Th e aim of the study: to investigate age and gender peculiarities of the biochemical parameters, lipid and cytokine blood profi les in nonviral chronic hepatitis patients. Material and methods. Totally, 123 patients with nonviral chronic hepatitis were examined. Th ey were divided into three age groups: 41 patients aged 30-44 years old (1st main group), 54 patients 45 – 59 years of age (2nd main group) and 28 patients aged 60 to 74 years (3rd main group). Among the chosen contingent, males prevailed – 91 persons (74.0%). Control group included 45 actually healthy persons represented by age and gender. Th e investigation of the biochemical parameters and lipid profi le of the blood, as well as determination of interleukin-10, tumor necrosis factor alpha and atrial natriuretic propeptide blood levels was conducted. Results and conclusions. Higher total lactate dehydrogenase activity and re- duction of albumin level in the blood were observed in elderly chronic hepatitis patients. Higher alkaline phosphatase activity, urea and creatinine blood concen- trations were revealed in elderly patients as compared to the corresponding indica- tors in young individuals. Progression of atherogenic dyslipidemia with age was ob- served the examined patients. Elderly patients were characterized by higher tumor necrosis factor alpha and atrial natriuretic propeptide blood levels in comparison with young patients. Higher total lactate dehydrogenase and γ-glutamyltranspeptidase blood activities were found in female patients with chronic hepatitis as compared to male patients. At the same time, male patients showed signifi cantly higher triacylglycerol level, lower cholesterol content of high density lipoproteins and higher concentration of tumor necrosis factor alpha in the blood as compared to similar indicators in female patients.
