ALLER + INFINITIF ET SES TRADUISANTS EN ITALIEN : REMARQUES POUR UNE NOUVELLE CATEGORISATION DE LA PERIPHRASE
Journal Title: Studii de Gramatica Contrastiva - Year 2013, Vol 19, Issue 19
Abstract
Aller + infinitive : the criteria for a new categorization of the periphrasis. This article deals with the analysis of aller + infinitive in contemporary French and aims at showing how it is translated into Italian. In particular, the most recent researches (i.e. Vet, 2007) about aller insist on a new status of this periphrasis as a verbal Tense (Vetters, Lière, 2009). Hence, it is possible to include aller in the middle of a temporal continuum, going from présent pro futuro to futur simple, so as to express the verbal future in French (Silletti, in press). In addition, it expresses a psychological proximity in terms of the speaker certainty rather than an immediate future (Provôt, Desclés, Vinzerich, 2010). Our experience of teaching translation from French into Italian at native Italian students has highlighted some problems when aller is translated into Italian. We suppose that two main reasons could explain this phenomenon: a non homogeneous study of aller and the lack in Italian of a structure similar to aller. Consequently, we would firstly analyze the new approach of aller; secondly, we will concentrate on translations of aller proposed by 250 students. More specifically, our corpus will be composed of four French texts of 350 words. Thirdly, we would compare these translations to the analysis of aller into five grammars of French for Italian students. In this way, we will evaluate students translation choices according to the co(n)text in which aller is used. Finally, we would propose a new approach by referring to the categorizations of aller proposed by the five Italian grammars. This approach will take into account many parameters and will integrate the new analyses of aller.
