An ethnographic research on the commercialization of the town of Baler, Aurora

Abstract

Aim: This ethnographic research aimed to understand the effects of resorts and other leisure amenities in the town of Baler, Aurora. Method: Participant observations were done to observe whether this "progress" produced positive or negative impacts. Interviews were also done, where questions about the length of residency, source(s) of livelihood, and effects of these commercial establishments on their community were asked. A total of 20 respondents from two Barangays, Bacong and Castillo, participated in the interview. Findings: Based on findings, it was determined that positive and negative effects came together as the establishments rose, but the positive’s weight was greater than the negatives. Implications/Novel Contribution: The current study includes intricate details on the Baler. The results will help policymakers improve tourism. The results also help tourists looking for new places. They can visit the city and explore new places for a happier time.
