AN EVALUATION ABOUT SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS’ WRITER’S BLOCK LEVELS

Abstract
Abstract This research tries to determine writer’s block levels of middle schools students (6, 7, 8. grade) according to various variables. The research was conducted with 450 secondary school students in Ankara (Mamak, Yenimahalle, and Çankaya districts). Blocking items of Writer’s Block Questionnaire developed by Rose (1981) were adapted to Turkish and they were used through adding another item to them. Principal component analysis rotated to varimax rotation was used for purpose of obtaining evidence for validity estimates. According to the results of factor analysis, it was found that blocking items comprises of one factor explaining 43 % of the total variance. The estimated reliability of the scale scores by using Cronbach alpha was ,84. Results of this study are as follows: 5 % of middle school students almost always or often experience writer’s block while doing written expression practices. A significant part of the students (60 %) goes through writer’s block, though from time to time. It was determined that writer’s block decreases Turkish course success increase. Students having regular journals in their houses have less writer’s block. Diary writing has less writer’s block likewise.
